The Lagos Section held its annual Energy4me Train the Teachers event on the 28th of May 2016. This event covered 42 teachers from over 20 secondary schools in Lagos. The aim was to educate teachers so that they may take their newly learnt skills back to their classrooms, thus inspiring students to consider pursuing careers within the realm of STEM. The materials used for the Energy4me workshop (oil and gas books and teacher kits) were provided by the Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPE).
The workshop was held on Saturday 28th May 2016 at Dowen College, Lekki. The workshop kicked-off with welcome remarks and programme overview by the Program Chair, Mrs. Ehimhen Agunloye and then the Keynote address was performed by the Section Chairperson, Mr. Ernest Mkpasi. Several energy related questions were posed to the section chair by the teachers at the end of his address. The event then moved onto the hands-on activities with 4 sessions happening in parallel; the first batch included (1) Sound waves (2) Core Sampling (3) Cartesian Driver and (4) Porosity while the second batch included (1) Density (2) Perforated Well Casing (3) Getting the Oil out and (4) Oil Seeps. In some cases, videos were also used to enrich the lectures.
